Phila auto-theft law gets mixed reviews

There is a new legislation that has come into effect in Philadelphia regarding stolen cars. The car owner will not have to suffer additional charges and penalties when the police find the stolen car abandoned somewhere. The police would call the owner over phone and inform him that his car has been recovered. The police would also give him one hour’s time to reach the spot where the car has been located. Only if the owner fails to make it in time his vehicle would be towed and he would have to pay a towing charge of $150 with storage fee of $25 per day. Mr. Clarke, a city councilman who has introduced this new legislation, is of the view that a comprehensive car insurance policy would be the best solution for the car owners to be free of such charges permanently. Such a comprehensive insurance policy for the cars, similar to comprehensive home insurance available from gainesville home insurance, would take care of towing charges and other incidental charges.

The car owner would be reimbursed all the expenses that he incurred after the recovery of the car by the police. But, the police chief is apprehensive about this new legislation and is of the opinion that the scheme would put additional burden on his men as they would have to wait for the car owners to arrive.
